It’s the last week of January, or as everyone is calling it: Veganuary. The month when the choice of going meat and dairy free is celebrated. Veganuary, a charity campaign started in Britain in 2014, is inspiring people to try vegan diet for January (and throughout the rest of the year).
Many people choose to follow a plant-based diet because they have concerns for animal welfare or over the effects farming can have on the environment. Going vegan is a huge life choice, it affects your whole life. But despite the big challenge, lots of celebrities have made the commitment and embraced a vegan lifestyle.
Let’s see some of the most inspiring famous vegans.
One of the most prominent vegan role models in Hollywood, he was crowned PETA’s Most Beautiful Vegan Celebrity of 2018. During his press tour for the film ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ he praised his new vegan lifestyle every opportunity he got. When Time Out London asked how he got in shape for the role, he was quick to respond, “I eat a plant-based diet.”
One of the most popular artists at the moment, who has been vegan since 2013. Her veganism comes from her love for animals. “I love animals more than I love most people, not kidding. But I am a firm believer in eating a full plant-based, whole food diet that can expand your life length and make you an all-around happier person,” she told the Mirror UK.
The musician often uses his large platform to advocate for the rights of animals, and to share information about the terrible impacts of animal farming. Recently, he decided to sell his New York home and donate a portion of the proceeds to his animal rights foundation. In the TEDx talk, titled ‘Why I’m a Vegan’ Moby said: “Every animal, no matter how big or how small or how wild or how domesticated, wants to be alive and simply wants to be happy.”
The singer has been a vegan since 2014, when her dog, Floyd died. Her husband, movie star Liam Hemsworth has also adopted a vegan lifestyle. Both are outspoken animal advocates and PETA called Miley the ‘veganest vegan to ever vegan’. “By not consuming animal products over the years I have protected myself from preventable diseases and saved the valuable lives of animals that would be turned into breakfast/lunch/dinner. Think before you eat! Go vegan!”
The former teenage heartthrob transitioned to a plant-based lifestyle in recent years. Since making the switch, he’s noticed immediate, positive changes in the way he feels, calling his new lifestyle brilliant.“[It’s] completely changed the way that my body works, and the way that I metabolize food, the way it turns into energy, the way that I sleep. It’s been great for my exercise, and great for my routine.”
The Grammy-nominated singer has been vegetarian for years, and just recently made the transition to vegan. “Once I fully understood where meat came from, I found that concept quite hard to live with. If you don’t need meat to survive, I don’t see why you have to have it. Also it makes you feel tired, it makes you feel lethargic, and your body finds it hard to process so much meat all the time,” she said.
